National Financial Aid Nudge Campaign
The White House and The Department of Education have made substantial investments to improve college affordability and transparency for students and families.
These investments include (1) an updated College Scorecard, which provides families with simplified information about college costs, quality, and earnings; and (2) making the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) available in October rather than January with the option to fill out the FAFSA using prior-prior year (PPY) tax data. The Scorecard and the FAFSA policy changes have the potential to help students make more informed choices about the postsecondary education options they pursue. At the same time, some families may not be aware of these changes or may be uncertain about how to effectively navigate the Scorecard or make full use of the FAFSA completion supports that are available to them.
We are partnering with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and The Common Application to maximize the number of students who use these new data and resources to inform college choice. Our partner agencies play an important role in increasing students’ college participation and success, and often already support students with critical information to support their college search and preparation process. Through our partners, we are reaching out to hundreds of thousands of students, to provide them with simplified information about and guidance on how to navigate changes to FAFSA policy and available college search tools.
